When you first come across a live table, Baccarat may appear like it will give you a tough time, but the game itself is much easier to follow than it looks. You simply choose your wager and watch the dealer handle the cards under fixed baccarat rules. You are not the one who decides whether another card should be drawn. The next card is dealt automatically, for as long as the rules call for it.
With this, it’s easy to compare the three main wagers. That is, banker, Player and Tie. But how do they differ when it comes to payouts and house edge? This is the key question we will answer in this guide.
Before then, note that our live baccarat tables also have different betting limits. On some tables, the minimum bet is as low as RM1. The exact limit depends on the table you select and is shown before you join.
How a Hand of Live Baccarat Is Played Out
A live baccarat hand uses a simple card value system.
- Cards with the number 2 to 9 retain their face value.
- An Ace is worth 1, while Ten, Jack, Queen and King are each worth 0.
- Getting as close to 9 as possible is the aim. However, should the total go above 9, only the last digit is considered. For instance, 8 plus 6 equals 14, meaning the hand value is 4.
- It is the first two cards that also decide whether the hand has a Natural or not. A Natural means the Player or Banker has a score of 8 or 9. The moment this happens, there are no needs for more cards and the hand is settled.
- The automatic third-card rule becomes applicable if both hands have a score of 7 or less. At this point, the dealer does not choose what happens next. The game follows its fixed rules based on the hand results.
So, if the Player has a total of 5 after two cards, the rules may mandate a third card. The Banker’s action is then set by the baccarat rules, based on the hands involved.
The important point is that you get to choose where to place your wager, be it on Banker, Player or Tie. You do not choose when another card is drawn. The dealer follows the rules for you.
The Three Major Wagers
As already established, Banker, Player and Tie are the three main live baccarat wagers. However, their payouts and house edges are not the same. We use our current published figures to compare them. It’s best to check the latest live baccarat table details on xe8.net/live-baccarat/ before you place a wager.
Banker
The payout on a Banker wager is 0.95:1 after the standard 5% commission is deducted, and the house edge is about 1.06%. Of the three main wagers, Banker has the lowest house edge. The small difference comes from the fixed third-card rules that give the Banker hand a slight statistical advantage. But don’t be mistaken. While this may influence your strategy, it does not mean that Banker wagers are certain to win or profitable over time.
Player
A Player wager pays 1:1 and has no 5% Banker commission. Its house edge is about 1.24%. The difference from Banker is not over the top, but it is enough to give Player a slightly higher mathematical house edge. This shows why an equal payout does not always mean two wagers have the same odds.
Tie
For a Tie wager, the payout is 8:1, alongside a house edge up to 14.36%, which is much higher than Banker or Player. As seen, the larger headline payout does not mean the wager has better mathematical odds.
To break this down, across RM100 in total wagers, a 1.06% house edge (for a Banker) means RM1.06 in expected loss. Likewise, at 14.36% house edge (for a Tie wager), the figure equals RM14.36. In other words, the greater the reward, the higher the risk. The choice is always yours.
Also, note that these are long-term mathematical expectations and not predictions for one gaming session. Actual results can be very different over a short period.
Side Bets – Larger Payouts but Different Mathematically
Live baccarat tables may also offer side bets next to Banker, Player and Tie. Wagers like this often focus on specific card results, such as a pair appearing in the Player or Banker hand.
We’ve provided more details about these side bets in the table below.
| Side bet | Payout (current) | Approx. house edge |
| Player Pair | 11:1 | 10.4% |
| Banker Pair | 11:1 | 10.4% |
| Either Pair | 5:1 | 13.5% |
| Perfect Pair | 25:1 | 13.0% |
These figures show why a large potential payout should not be mistaken for a low-cost wager. For example, Perfect Pair has a 25:1 payout but also a significantly higher house edge than the main Banker or Player wagers. Likewise, payouts from side bets are not set in stones, as they depend on game providers and tables.
Baccarat Squeeze & Speed Baccarat – What Really Changes?
Baccarat Squeeze does not, in any way, change how Baccarat works. It only adds a little more suspense to each hand with how the cards are shown, as the dealer reveals the cards more slowly. Aside from that, the card values and fixed baccarat rules remain the same.
We currently offer Baccarat Squeeze as part of our live baccarat selection. After all, it is a highly sought-after format among players in Southeast Asia.
With Speed Baccarat, the approach is a bit different. The rounds are shorter, and as such, more hands can be completed within a similar period. The fact that the game moves faster or slower does not in any way change the house edge on a particular wager. Instead, what it implies is that more hands allows you to place more wagers.
Say the same stake is used on more hands, more money is exposed to the house edge during that time. The percentage remains the same, but there can be an increase in the total amount at risk.
Things to Consider in Your Search for an Online Live Baccarat Table

Entertainment Only
Live baccarat is a form of entertainment that involves taking risks with real money. Therefore, it’s ideal to set the budget for your session before taking a seat and never go above that amount.
Also, while betting strategies like the Martingale are great, they only affect how much you stake after wins or losses. They do not change baccarat’s house edge in any way, nor turn a negative mathematical expectation into a positive one.
We have made responsible gaming tools available for you to help manage your gameplay. These include deposit limits, session time reminders, cooling-off periods, and self-exclusion options.
Note, however, that only people above the age of 21 are allowed to play our games. Make sure you are eligible before signing up to avoid immediate account termination and forfeiture of funds.
Closing
At 1.06%, Banker currently has the lowest house edge among the three main baccarat wagers. Player has 1.24%, which is quite close, while Tie and most side bets come with much higher edges. It is, therefore, essential to know the odds, payouts and table limits to make more informed decisions. But more importantly, never forget that live baccarat is just a way to have fun with your money.
